Fender Bassman 500 Tube 500-watt Bass Amp Head Review

  1. The thing came out and a twelvemonth agone. There seemed to be some proficient buzz almost it. Information technology looks cool and the whole light weight notwithstanding quondam school Fender vibe had my gas going.

Then poof.... Zero. I tin can't retrieve seeing a NAD on hither about them. Never seen on in the wild, nix. That's even so no reviews online. What gives? Anybody have i, played one. I'm thinking they got beat out light weight class D micro revolution. But it still only weights 17 lbs. It's kinda big though. Anyhow. I'chiliad done rambling.

  2. Novelty. An amp made to look vintage with a case that weighs more than the amp itself. Skilful deal.
  3. There are several threads on it. I have one:
    NAD - Bassman 500 + Rumble 115
I haven't really used mine much though - I admit I did get it mostly for the vintage look, and I oasis't played many gigs where that was advisable/needed lately.
While B-String does have a point (yes I unremarkably grab my GK MB500 for cover band gigs) - the preamp department that is used with the 500 (and the 100T and Super Bassman 300) is i of the most versatile out there IMHO - especially the overdrive aqueduct. On that one yous can set the proceeds to a level of distortion, then blend it with a clean signal - then utilise the volume to set the overall level of that channel equal to the other ("Vintage") ane if you want to switch betwixt the 2.

  4. It'southward definitely I cute rig.

If I didn't own the Super Bassman I would accept opted for the 500.

Looks cool, sounds expert, and is low-cal weight. Price isn't too bad either.

  6. I bet if information technology weighed 5 pounds less it would be more popular. My Fender Rumble 40 looks to have most the same corporeality of woods or more than and has a 4 pound speaker in information technology for 17 pounds full. Where'due south the weight coming from in these? Did they apply a transformer instead of a SMPS?
  7. I merely played out terminal night with mine and it does just fine. I besides have a 100t only sometimes on a "less of import" gig this is but a little more than practical. The distortion on it is great in my opinion (we play originals in the vein of the offspring/alkaline trio/bad religion) And it definitely isn't heavy to carry at all. At first I idea it was also a little dumb to exist every bit big every bit it is, merely so establish information technology very useful that I could put my power cable and cords in the back of the head. And in that location'southward even a divider in the middle so I don't have to worry about bumping a preamp tube.
  8. That's an awful lot of knobs for a bass amplifier.
  9. I recently bought the bassman 500. It is very versatile and fun to play with. The preamp is certainly great! You can get all kind of tones. How does the volume of your 100T compare to the bassman 500? I sometimes become my tiptop led blinking all the time when we play louder in a typical stone band situation.
  10. This affair is a super easy one-paw carry - feels lighter than information technology is. Mine weighs at 15.8 lbs on digital bath scale. It's the same Class D SMPS power equally the Rumble 500.
  11. ElGore, I would say the same affair virtually my 500 caput loud enough but seems to give me a bit much clipping at a medium rock band volume. Nothing that my ears discover tho. As far every bit the 100t, that's all the headroom that I think nigh people would ever demand. The 500 is fine, only the 100 tube watts is merely in your face and loud.
  12. What cabs are y'all guys using with the 500? I used mine at a gig in a VERY loud rock club and was getting the summit LED to light up every now and so - to me information technology was almost ear-bleed loud though. Two Genz Benz Focus 115's so a four-ohm load.
  13. Every time I hear someone say "it has likewise many knobs" whether it'southward bass with more than 2 or an amp with more iv I LOL. I swear people unless yous are using a rotary dial phone and drive a automobile from the fifties you're talkin out yer poop shoot. I know y'all all accept a smart phone and use some kind of computer or y'all wouldn't be commenting here. You lot are not a Trogolodyte. So actually enough with the "too many knobs", you're beating a expressionless horse. And actually these have half equally many knobs as a GB Shuttlemax.
  14. i almost bought i of these a few weeks back. I institute 1 used on guitar middle'due south website for $500 and ordered information technology. after a week it still hadn't shipped out nonetheless, and then I started getting in contact with guitar center. first their online service, then the shop i ordered from, and and then a phone number that the shop told me to call. a couple days later GC cancelled the order. I considered ownership a new one only they were out of stock for a few weeks and I but decided to transport my Fender Studio Bass head to the shop to get retubed instead of ownership a new amp. I wouldn't rule out getting one anytime, just for now I'thou skilful, I'm gunna buy a new BBQ smoker with the money I didn't spend on this amp :)
  15. I compleatly agree with you lot!

For kicks an ampeg v4b (one of the nigh simplistic amps) has a total of 8 knobs/ rocker switches combined to bassman 500's 12...oh yeah the amp that's been rocking stages since 69 ampeg svt /svt vr has a total of 12 knobs/ rocker switches combined.

  16. When I need to get off on a minimal number of knobs I pull out my P bass with two and my Sunn 200S with Only 3, - Vol., Bass and Treble.
  17. How actually large is the head casing? I actually wanted to become one but I feel like a lunchbox way housing would be mo betta
  18. That'south how they were back in the olde days. Those one-time bass amps were really modestly modified guitar amps (which is why so many guitar players honey them now)
